Who We Are?

TIMSAH STORY

The Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development (AUEED), operating in Upper Egypt for 80 years, is considered one of the first NGOs working in Egypt. Founded in 1940 by Jesuit Fr. Henry Ayrout, to develop Upper Egypt and improve the conditions of the Egyptian Peasant (the Fellah) by letting the citizens of the capital understand the extent of poverty and limited education of the people there and mobilizing them to support poor and marginalized villages. Ayrout believed that improving the conditions of the poor will not take place without education, enhancing people’s dignity, developing their lives, and teaching them through methods appropriate to their living environments.
