Export Growth and Main Markets

During the first quarter of 2025 alone, Egyptian agricultural exports exceeded 2.7 million tons, with citrus, fresh potatoes, and fresh onions leading the list. The European Union, along with Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the United Kingdom, account for the largest share of Egyptian vegetable imports, driven by the high quality and diversity of Egyptian products.

Reasons Behind the Export Boom

Experts and exporters attribute the surge in vegetable exports to several factors, most notably:

  • Expansion of agricultural land and increased local production.
  • Improved crop quality and adherence to international standards.
  • Decline in production in some competing countries due to climate changes, which boosted demand for Egyptian products.

Economic Impact

Vegetable exports play a significant role in supporting the Egyptian economy by providing foreign currency and improving the trade balance, in addition to creating direct and indirect job opportunities in the agricultural sector and related industries.

Statistics confirm that Egypt’s vegetable exports are experiencing continuous growth and market diversity, with citrus, potatoes, and onions topping the list of exported crops. This strengthens Egypt’s position as a major supplier of vegetables to regional and international markets.
